Dancing Dukes
My dance journey began in September 2018 at The Dance Spot in Huntersville, NC. I participated in recreational classes rather than competitive dance, as I began training later and wanted to focus on personal growth and enjoyment. During my five years at The Dance Spot, I trained in jazz, lyrical, and contemporary styles. Each year, I performed in the studio’s annual recital, showcasing both jazz and lyrical routines alongside my classmates.
In August 2022, during my freshman year at JMU, I joined Dancing Dukes, a student-run dance organization that offers weekly classes in a variety of styles, including jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and tap. Each semester, members participate in a recital where we can select the dances we wish to perform in. My primary focus is in jazz and contemporary. Beyond dance, Dancing Dukes also hosts formals and interactive social events, creating a strong sense of community and connection among members.
